Term 2 Homework Project for years 3 – 6
Last term we watched a short video of a design for a skyfarm. This project will be a series of tasks based on this skyfarm.
There are 9 tasks and 3 weeks to complete the project. That means that students should do 3 tasks per week to stay on track.
The project is due Monday 22nd May 2017
Students may present their project in a number of ways. They may make a slideshow presentation of their tasks, which can be emailed to me, [email protected] , or saved onto a usb drive and handed in to me. Projects can be presented on cardboard. Tasks can be completed on paper or in an exercise book and handed in. Tasks may be typed, or handwritten.
First of all watch the video again to get a good idea of it in your mind, then have a look at the tasks ...
1. Disadvantages
List some of the disadvantages of the Urban Skyfarm.
2. Advantages
Make a list of all of the good advantages that you can think of for having Urban Skyfarms in our cities.
3. Different Use
What other things could this design be used for. Think of as many things as you can.
4. Commonalities
What does this farm have in common with a traditional farm?
5. Predict
What do you think could happen if cities started building these skyfarms?
6. Brainstorm
The video says that the skyfarm will help to produce electricity and it will help to provide clean air. How do you think it will do that?
7. Draw
Draw a detailed diagram of the design. Make sure you add some labels.
8. Write
Write a narrative (a story) inspired by the Urban Skyfarm
9. Research
The plants in the skyfarm grow in a hydroponic system. Research what this means and write some facts about growing plants hydroponically.
